A new term at The Making Place is about to begin on 7th September at 10am.
Our 5th year so far has included lots of “firsts”
Elaine’s first weave, Wanda’s first crochet, Chris’s first sewing project, Mary’s first demo resulting in many of us learning cross stitch for the first time.
The Making Place continues to be about trying new crafts and sharing our skills with each other.
The Sea Above and Below exhibition in June, saw many of our “firsts” on display, as well as a number of crocheted octopus which have been given for the use of premature babies in hospital.
It is always amazing to see all our makes come together. Mary’s shoal was inspired by Pat’s demo which uses fabric to recycle milk bottle tops.
Painted and felted pebbles were there too from times we have worked together on a project in the group.

Some of us took a trip to Morecambe for inspiration on the Sea theme and enjoyed the hospitality of The Sanctuary Café.
It was fun to play in the sand afterwards and good to witness Janet’s shots of Morecambe in the exhibition –such beauty on our door step.
A kit gift of a fabric snail was duplicated and made up by a number of members and as ever the same pattern in different hands produced a unique trail.
A womens’ community group in Barrow requested a handmade snail for their logo. Deb’s took up the challenge and made a lovely crocheted one and we passed on the pattern. The women in Barrow are busy making their trail too.

It is great to use crafts to make a difference. Vanda continues to make baby clothes for RLI and has been making "twiddle "blankets too for those who are living with dementia.
It will be interesting to see if anyone has completed the Summer project to design a page for a colouring book - it wasn’t compulsory.
We have a busy term planned. Another Autumn walk to Woodies and this time wearing our new hats!
Hat making is our new project for this term -I can’t decide between papier Mache and crochet.
Jewellery making more recycled bottle top designs as well as ribbon work and crochet tree decorations.
I am looking forward to it.
See you there.
Happy making.
